The cage type universal joint, with the advantage of constant speed transmission, is gradually being applied to cold rolling and precision rolling units that require higher motion accuracy. Its core technology lies in the precise coordination between steel balls and raceways to ensure constant instantaneous angular velocity. The double universal joint eliminates the speed fluctuation problem of a single universal joint through the special design of the intermediate shaft, making it an ideal choice for the main drive of large rolling mills.

The core component material of metallurgical universal joint couplings directly determines the performance boundary of the product. Cross shafts are generally made of high-quality alloy steels such as 20CrMnTi and 20CrNi2Mo. After carburizing and quenching treatment, the surface hardness reaches HRC58-62, and the core maintains the toughness of HRC35-40, ensuring both wear resistance and impact resistance requirements. The universal joint fork is mostly made of 42CrMo or 35CrMo, and the best comprehensive mechanical properties are obtained through quenching and tempering heat treatment.

The lubrication system of metallurgical universal joint couplings has undergone technological upgrades from grease lubrication to oil lubrication, and then to intelligent lubrication. Although traditional grease lubrication has a simple structure, it is difficult to meet the heat dissipation requirements under high-speed and heavy load conditions; The circulating oil lubrication system effectively reduces operating temperature through forced oil cooling, but increases equipment complexity and maintenance costs.

The efficient and stable operation of metallurgical rolling equipment relies on the precise selection of universal joint couplings. Scientific selection requires comprehensive consideration of five core elements: torque characteristics, speed range, compensation capability, environmental adaptability, and maintenance convenience. The rated torque should be selected as the basic parameter based on 1.5-2 times the maximum working torque of the equipment, while considering the dynamic impact load during the rolling process.
