The specialized gear coupling for large hot rolling mills adopts a double drum tooth meshing structure, and its core components include:

  1. External gear sleeve: a spherical profile with a tooth tip curvature radius of 1.5-3m, and a tooth thickness gradually decreasing from the middle to both ends by 0.15-0.3mm. It is achieved through five axis CNC machining to achieve uniform contact across the entire tooth width. This design optimizes the contact stress distribution by 40% compared to straight tooth couplings, while maintaining an effective meshing area of over 85% even at an angular displacement of 1.5 °.

  2. Internal gear ring: Made of 42CrMoA alloy steel, forged as a whole, and subjected to deep carburizing and quenching treatment (infiltration layer depth of 2.5-3.2mm), the tooth surface hardness reaches HRC58-62, and the core maintains HB280-320 toughness. The specially designed increased backlash (30% -50% larger than standard gears) ensures that edge contact is avoided during roll deflection.

  3. Lubrication system: High end models are equipped with internal circulation forced thin oil lubrication (oil pressure 1.2-1.8 bar, flow rate 15L/min), which achieves full coverage lubrication of the tooth surface through centrifugal oil channels. Tests have shown that compared to grease lubrication, thin oil lubrication can reduce tooth wear by 60% and extend service life by 3-5 times.

Torque transmission mechanism

  1. Main transmission path: Approximately 70% of the rated torque is transmitted through the normal force decomposition of the involute tooth profile

  2. Auxiliary path: 30% of the torque is borne by the frictional force on the end face, and pre tightening force is applied using 12.9 grade alloy steel bolts
