RWC Ball & Drum Gear Drum Coupling

The ball and drum gear drum coupling is a drum coupling developed by Rokee with a more reliable structure, higher compensation ability and higher safety factor. The outer sleeve adopts a spherical drum tooth design, which has low requirements for shafting installation accuracy, large transmission torque, strong overload capacity and can withstand great radial load. The connection size is the same as that of DC series, but the bearing capacity is increased by more than 30%. The innovative spherical sealing technology makes this type of product maintain excellent lubrication and greatly improve its service life.

The ball-and-drum gear type drum coupling is primarily composed of an outer gear sleeve with drum-shaped teeth, an outer sleeve with a flange, a load-bearing ring, an end cap, a sealing ring, and other components. Among them, the design of the drum-shaped teeth is its key feature, which enables the coupling to better accommodate axial misalignment while transmitting torque and compensate for additional bending moments caused by machining and assembly errors.

The working principle of the ball-and-drum gear type drum coupling is similar to that of other gear type couplings, both of which transmit torque through the contact of tooth surfaces. When the driving shaft rotates, its torque is transmitted to the inner gear ring (or the part meshing with it) through the drum-shaped teeth of the outer gear shaft sleeve, thereby driving the driven shaft to rotate. Due to the presence of the drum-shaped teeth, the coupling can accommodate certain angular, radial, and axial displacement compensation, ensuring the stability and reliability of the transmission.

Performance characteristics

  • High torque transmission capacity: The design of the drum-shaped teeth increases the contact area of the tooth surface, enabling the coupling to withstand high torque and suitable for heavy-duty transmission applications.

  • Excellent displacement compensation capability: The barrel coupling is capable of compensating for angular, radial, and axial displacements between two shafts, reducing the additional loads caused by shaft misalignment, and enhancing the reliability and service life of the equipment.

  • Stable operation and low noise: The meshing process of drum gears is relatively smooth, resulting in low noise during operation, making them suitable for work environments with strict noise requirements.

  • Compact structure, easy to install and maintain: The ball-and-drum gear type drum coupling has a relatively compact structure, with less stringent requirements for the alignment of the two shafts during installation. It is also easy to maintain, with internal components being easy to inspect and replace.

The gear type barrel coupling has been widely used in multiple industrial fields due to its excellent performance characteristics. For example:

  • Metallurgical industry: used to connect large equipment such as motors and reducers, as well as reducers and working machines, to meet their heavy-load and high-impact working conditions.
