The steel shim pack coupling is a high-performance flexible coupling that achieves torque transmission and deviation compensation through the elastic deformation of multiple layers of metal gaskets (steel sheets). This type of coupling exhibits unique advantages in high-temperature, heavy-duty, and precision transmission applications, and is widely used in metallurgy, aviation, energy, and other fields.

The steel shim pack coupling adopts a multi-layer metal gasket stacking structure, mainly composed of high-strength wheel hub, special steel gasket group, and precision connection system. The core design concept is to adapt to various working conditions through the controllable deformation of metal elastic components.

Wheel hub components are typically made of 42CrMo or 34CrNiMo6 alloy steel and undergo quenching and tempering heat treatment to achieve a hardness of HB280-320. The wheel hub design includes multiple connection methods:

  1. Conical clamping sleeve connection (keyless design, easy disassembly and assembly)

  2. Keyway connection (more reliable in heavy-duty situations)

  3. Flange connection (facilitating high torque transmission)

The steel gasket group is the core elastic element of the coupling, which is composed of multiple 0.2-0.5mm thick special stainless steel thin sheets stacked together. The shape of the gasket has been optimized by finite element method, and common ones include:

  1. Circular gasket (standard type, balancing rigidity and flexibility)

  2. Connecting rod gasket (high torsional stiffness)
  3. Wave pad (large angle compensation)

Each set of gaskets consists of 4-12 pieces stacked together and pre tightened with high-strength bolts. The bolts are made of 12.9 grade alloy steel and have undergone Dacromet treatment on the surface to ensure corrosion resistance and fastening reliability. The unique arrangement of the gasket group enables it to simultaneously produce bending, stretching, and compression deformations, thereby achieving intelligent compensation for multi-directional deviations.

The working principle of the steel shim pack coupling is based on metal elasticity: when the driving shaft transmits torque, the torque is transmitted to the driven shaft through the force flow path composed of the hub bolt gasket group. When there is relative displacement between the two axes, the gasket group undergoes controllable elastic deformation:

  1. Axial displacement: The gasket undergoes tensile/compressive deformation

  2. Radial displacement: The gasket exhibits fan-shaped bending

  3. Angular deviation: The gasket forms a conical deformation

This deformation not only achieves displacement compensation, but also absorbs vibration energy (with a damping effect of up to 30%). Unlike rubber component couplings, the deformation of metal gaskets is completely within the elastic range, without creep or aging issues, ensuring long-term stable transmission performance.
